Continent Warsaw – Warsaw of Many Cultures portal (Kontynent Warszawa – Warszawa Wielu Kultur), the organizer of the first edition of Warsaw Multicultural Plein-Air, announces the open recruitment of the participants for a city plein-air for artists representing various cultures. There be created works presenting visions of Warsaw by foreigners as well as reflecting their personal experiencing of the city during the the Plein-Air. Exhibition of the works created during the Plein-Air and releasing the album with them and presenting the authors finishes the Plein-Air in December 2009.

The main aim of the Plein-Air as well as the exhibition and releasing the album is the promotion support for artists coming from various cultures, living and creating in Warsaw, and also to present the variety and cultural richness of Warsaw.

Artists of a foreign descent who are or plan to be in Poland legally no shorter than 12 months are invited to apply for participating in the project. They should come from so called third countries (not being members of the European Union) according to the regulations by The Authority for Implementing European Projects (Władza Wdrażająca Projekty Europejskie) which is the body financing the project of the Warsaw Multicultural Plein-Air. The Plein-Air is dedicated for visual artists creating in various techniques (painting, sculpting, installation, visualization, photography, etc.). Artists of various seniority at their art work are invited, including students of art schools.

A total or partial reimbursement of preparing the works and their exhibitinig is provided and is based on the individual estimation of the cost of preparing work/works for the project. One artist can be provided the reimbursement (total or partial) of creating one work at the Plein-Air. The organizers cannot ensure the reimbursement of another works created within the project but it is possible and it depends on the way the budget is disposed and obtaining more resources for realising the project. However, it be possible to publish more than one work in the album.

The costs of the transportation of the works from the place they are finally created as well as collecting them from the place the exhibition is deinstalled and possibly an insurance are in the charge of participants. The organizers are not responsible for any damage caused by an incorrect packing or transportation of the works.

The Plein-Air lasts from 21st October until 4th November, 2009 in the area of Warsaw city and the artists are allowed to choose freely the mode, subject and place/places their work. During the Plein-Air they stay in touch with the organizers who is responsible for creating a photo documentation of their work. The artists are allowed to continue their work in their studios, to finish the works in a non-outdoor environment, until 20th November, 2009. The organizers consult the cost of creating the works and technical requirement for exhibiting them in the exhibition space.

The vernissage of the works, the exhibition and presentation of the album take place in December, 2009.

There is no obligatory application form though a candidate has to fulfill the formal conditions of participation in the project and present their artistic activity. Contact details are also obligatory. Applications are accepted in Polish or English. The list of participants of the Plein-Air will be published on 20th October, 2009 on Continent Warsaw – Warsaw of Many Cultures portal (Kontynent Warszawa – Warszawa Wielu Kultur, www.kontynent.waw.pl) and invited artists will be also informed via mail or phone. The organizers provide minimum 20 vacancies for participants of the Plein-Air.

Additional regulations will be adapted in the case when more applications are sent and technique/techniques of the works (to maintain their variety), cost of the producing a work, variety of countries artists come from will be considered.

The organizers could contact an artist to set up the regulations of the cooperation.

In special cases also foreign artists who do not fulfill the conditions listed above as well as representatives of national and ethnic minorities present in Poland (so not fulfilling the conditions according to the Implementing Authority) if participation of such artist is valuable as a promotion support for other participants of the project.

The qualifying committee is set up by the organizers (Continent Warsaw – Warsaw of Many Cultures/ Kontynent Warszawa – Warszawa Wielu Kultur portal).

Participating in the project involves the agreement for depositing the works to organizers by the end of 2009 for them to be presented at the exhibition after the Plein-Air as well as to be published in the publications of the organizers and also on Continent Warsaw – Warsaw of Many Cultures/ Kontynent Warszawa – Warszawa Wielu Kultur portal on the promotion purposes – without acquitting the copyright. The organizers reserve the right to use irredeemably the image of all the works created at the Plein-Air.
