Multiculturalism film series – Paths of Multicultural Warsaw
One of the projects which are tightly integrated with Portal Continent Warsaw is a DVD film series, realized between 2009 and 2010. It presents the cultural diversity of the city where many professional artists from other countries or from ethnic minorities found a place to live, work and develop. The main aim of these films is to discover for the viewer completely new and special places where different cultures develop. Innovative and original point of view is characteristic for the series. The places are not presented in a dry manner, the focus is placed on expressing their atmosphere and climate of their culture. With the use of camera we managed to enter their space, to listen to the stories told by owners of unusual restaurants, bars, galleries, we want to find out the stories of artists who perform in Warsaw clubs and at the biggest cultural events in Poland and to listen to the stories of foreigners.
The project consists of six 30 minute long para-documentaries (each DVD consists of 2 episodes) which in a dynamic way present the vivid cultural mosaic of Warsaw. They are made within three years (2009-2010), first two were ready at the beginning of 2010, following two are planned for January 2011. Each instalment is a self-contained whole, has its own characters and multicultural places they visit, representatives of various cultures and their stories (from a hooligan who comes to the stadium to buy a pair of shoes, through an artist looking for inspiration to the businessman who throws out Vietnamese vendors from the stadium which is being built for Euro 2012). Variety of characters will enable the audience to identify with them and to see the unknown places in the city with their eyes. The plot of each film will start at the Metro Centrum square. The characters will start from this place to live their exotic adventures.
This kind of publication will not only allow to experience an alternative manner of visiting Warsaw and getting to know its less known tourist places but also to feel the specific atmosphere of such places, to get to know their creators and to approach the multiculturalism of the city. The main assumption of the project is the wide promotion of Warsaw cultural diversity so we will make partnerships with media, both Polish and foreign in order to distribute the film free of charge. They will surely be television (public and commercial), radio, press and Internet. The film will also be distributed by other non-governmental organisations, schools and film festivals in Poland and abroad.
