The group is specialised in capoeira regional style which was created in the city of Salvador at the beginning of the 30's by Mestre Bimbe who enriched capoeira with new movements to transform it to more of martial arts, however not forgetting its folk roots. He was also the first to create a capoiera academy and in this way he found a space for capoeira in 20th century using it as a tool for education and social work.
Despite the fact, capoeira evolved a lot over the years, Unicar group cultivate the form of capoeria regional invented by Mestre Bimba who stressed its character of martial arts.
