Jewish Community of Warsaw (Gmina Wyznaniowa Żydowska w Warszawie) is one of nine comminities gathered in the Jewish Communities Union in the Republic of Poland. It was reactivated in Autumn 1997. Because it is not an orthodox organisation, everyone who according to the Law of Return is entitled to apply for Israeli nationality may become its member – provided that at least one of their grandparents was Jewish. What’s crucial, the Community associates Jews regardless of their religiousness. However, a Community member cannot be associated in other denominational unions.

The Community deals not only with religious matters – education and sociallife are also highly appreciated. As other communities in Poland, Warsaw Community continues the tradition of prewar Jewish Communities so it serves as a local jewish government. The members are covered with a welfare programme, which is intended to help people in difficult situation as well as Holocaust victims and individuals recognised as Righteous Among The Nations. The form of the help provided may be different: from financial support to legal counselling, medications or volunteers’ help.
