The main aims of Polish Society of Oriental Art (Polskie Stowarzyszenie Sztuki Orientu) is to protect cultural output and traditions and popularise the material and the non-material heritage of Asian, African and other non-European cultures.

Among the ways of realizing the aims are: research and documenting Oriental art - with focus on the history of painting, sculpture, graphics, architecture and urban development, gardens, handicraft, photography, theory of art, as well as contemporary art and audio-visual culture, organizing research and international cooperation on Oriental art, including meetings, conferences and workshops for curators, gathering documents on events, workshops and artistic activity and working on methods of preserving of Oriental works of art. 

Moreover, Polish Society of Oriental Art supports research on:

  • the art of other non-European cultures (South and Middle America, Australia and Oceania)
  • the art of the Christian borderland between Asia and Europe
  • the art of national minorities from the East in Poland and Central-Eastern Europe (Armenians, Jews, Karaims and Tatars)


To realise its statutory aims, Polish Society of Oriental Art has created Department of Oriental Art devoted to research and documenting.
