The Association Shamiana is was established as an effort to create a platform for intercultural cooperation between Polish society and societies of the countries of South Asia - India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Shamiana is a voluntary NGO, incorporated association based in Poland and strives to be a not-profit, non-political and non-sectarian organization and to be transparent and accountable for its activities.
Shamiana promotes and fosters the integration of the Polish and South Asians in Poland.
The idea of creating Association of Friends of India and South Asia emerged in June 2006. A group of people fascinated about the countries of the region established The Association which aims are to create a base to understanding and tolerance for countries of South Asia and to promote culture of the countries in Poland thanks by:
  • seminaries
  • exhibition
  • lectures
  • discussions
  • dance parties
  • concerts
  • promoting the culture and tradition of South Asia countries
