Instituto Cervantes is a Spanish state institution established in 1991, which aims are to teach and promote Spanish language and culture as well as culture of Spanish-language countries. Instituto Cervantes is an institution based in Madrid and in a village near Alcalá de Henares which is the Miguel de Cervantes' birthplace.
Instituto Cervantes has its offices on four continents.

The main activities of Instituto Cervantes:

  • Organizing general and specialist Spanish language courses
  • Organizing international DELE exams (Diploma Oficial de Español como Lengua Extranjera / The Diplomma of Spanish Language as a Foreign Language)
  • Organizing courses for teachers of Spanish language
  • Supporting activities undertaken by people interested in Spanish language and culture
  • Participating in projects promoting Spanish language
  • Promoting Spanish culture ans well as culture of Spanish language countries in cooperation with various institutions and organizations
  • Running public libraries
