Centre for Oriental Cultures (Ośrodek Kultur Orientalnych - OKO) was established at the beginning of 2006 as an institution gathering various smaller initiatives focused on Oriental cultures.

The Centre is an independent informal department in the structures of Paderewski Institute.

 

The aims of the Centre are:
  • scientific research into Oriental cultures
  • organizing conferences, seminaries, shows and other scientific or cultural events
  • scientific publications
  • founding or supporting music bands and dance goups
  • promoting the idea of multiculturalism and respecting human rights
  • organizing cometitions and film rewievs
  • striving to the integration of communities of ethnic minorities and refugees

 

 

There are active three sections in the Centre:

 

 

Korean Section:

Vietnamese Section

the specialist: Dang Thu Huong

 

 

Arabian Countreis Section

the specialist: Agata Pawłowska

 

 

 

Apart from its scientific activities, OKO runs two clubs:

 

  • KLUB POMOST gathering foreigners willing to organize as volunteers cultural events

 

  • KLUB SCRABBLE for Foreigners (in cooperation with Dom Kultury Śródmieście), which is to become one of the parts of the programme of courses in Polish for foreigners (www.scrabble.orient.waw.pl)
