Regulation of the Minister of Education and Sport in this regard was signed on 29 October 2003 and entered into force on 14 November 2003.

The Chairman of the Founding Committee applied to the President of the Polish Confederation of Sport Andrzej Kraśnik concerning the approval of the statute and the decision authorizing the activities of the  Polish Sumo Federation.
On 18 March 2004 International Sumo Federation sent the official memership Cetrificate to Poland and in this way sanctioned the Federation's existance.

Next important step was the construction of a clay dohyo in TAR Krotoszyn, where teams of all age groups could prepare for various championships.The introduced system of training brought the expected results year after year.

To date, the Polish representatives in sumo won 186 medals, including 139 in the period of independent existence of the Federation.
In 2009, the Polish Association of Sumo already included 45 licensed sport clubs, 75 licensed sumo  referees and 28 licensed trainers. In December 2009, another course for sumo  instructors began. In October 2010 the World Championships in sumo were held in Warsaw in a group of seniors and juniors, of both women and men.
