The Centre is an independent informal department in the structures of Paderewski Institute.
The aims of the Centre are:
- scientific research into Oriental cultures
- organizing conferences, seminaries, shows and other scientific or cultural events
- scientific publications
- founding or supporting music bands and dance goups
- promoting the idea of multiculturalism and respecting human rights
- organizing cometitions and film rewievs
- striving to the integration of communities of ethnic minorities and refugees
There are active three sections in the Centre:

Apart from its scientific activities, OKO runs two clubs:
- KLUB POMOST gathering foreigners willing to organize as volunteers cultural events
- KLUB SCRABBLE for Foreigners (in cooperation with Dom Kultury Śródmieście), which is to become one of the parts of the programme of courses in Polish for foreigners (www.scrabble.orient.waw.pl)
